What? We are a vegetable and berry farm offering shares in our CSA, and selling produce at our Farm Stand on the farm. Although not “certified” organic all of our food is naturally grown without petroleum based fertilizers, or synthetic pesticides. For 2011 we will be offering a wide variety of seasonal vegetables, and U-pick organic strawberries. We may have other U-pick items available for our members to supplement their shares (usually for those interested in canning or preserving). CSA members receive a bi-weekly newsletter with helpful recipes, and we like to give out occasional extras like cut flowers, fresh raspberries, or whatever we think would make a nice surprise.
Where? We are just off Porter Hill Road: turn left onto the Town Farm Road from Rt. 4 just after the bridge over the Sandy River as you leave Farmington heading toward Strong; take your first right onto Porter Hill Rd; take your first right again onto Owen Mann Rd. At .3 miles you will see a large red barn on your left – that is us.
When? CSA pick-ups will be weekly at the farm on Wednesdays from 3-6 PM from mid-June thru mid-October. The farm stand will be open at the same time, and also on Thursdays from 3-6.
Why? We enjoy fresh, healthy food ourselves and want to share with others. We enjoy getting to know our customers, and hope you want to “know your farmer”. We believe in locally grown food, and in the concept of Community Supported Agriculture. Thru a CSA shareholders play an active role in supporting a local farm, and assume some of the risk which is inherent in agriculture – ie. Crop failure because of weather, pests, etc. Fortunately if it is a bad year for one crop, it will often be a good year for another.
How much? We figure that a full CSA share is enough fresh vegetables to feed a family of four. The cost is $500 for the 18 week season. (With a good harvest you can expect to receive a market value of $550).
A partial CSA share is generally enough for two adults, and costs $325 for the 18 week season (a $360 value).
